Cornerstone Economic Research partnered with UNICEF Mozambique to deliver a comprehensive set of evidence-based thematic briefs using the latest Mozambique Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data.
Children in Mozambique faces overlapping challenges of poverty, health risks, education gaps, and vulnerability to climate and conflict shocks. To support stronger policy and advocacy, our team analysed data from the 2022-23 Mozambique DHS and developed insights across eleven thematic areas – ranging from maternal and child health, early childhood development, and nutrition, to education, gender, child marriage, adolescent well-being, and violence against children.
How did we do this?
The team at Cornerstone:
- Reviewed and analysed survey microdata from the 2022-23 Mozambique DHS.
- Applied advanced statistical techniques to track trends, identify inequalities, and explore the determinants of child well-being outcomes.
- Developed accessible visuals and narratives to translate complex data into clear policy messages.
- Worked closely with UNICEF Mozambique teams to validate findings and shape policy recommendations.
- Produced bilingual (English and Portuguese) briefs, designed for use in national advocacy and planning.
The final outputs included eleven Thematic Briefs summarising national findings and policy implications.
These products now serve as reference points for policymakers, civil society, and development partners, guiding investments and programming for children in Mozambique.
